Progress Entry

Welcome. Thanks for visiting for whatever reason you are here. This webpage is here to document various information concerning the restoration of my 1937 D-2 International Pickup. Restoration is the word I am using although I am actually trying to get it to a point where it will go down the highway. I am not using the original motor- although it did come with the truck. I am also changing several things that will not be like the originals - like wiring, hinges, and other items. The true word would be that I am street rodding the truck.
However, I am attempting to gather all the information I can on these fantastic and interesting vehicles. As I go along, I am adding entries on how things were originally and how and if I changed them. I am trying to keep the exterior looking as stock as possible but with a few additions.
If you have restored a vehicle before then some of my entries will seem familiar. If you have never restored a vehicle there are several sources out there for you to check in to.
My only advise is to decide what YOU want and MAKE YOUR TRUCK YOURS just make it safe. You are the one driving it right.

Gotta Love those 3 day weekends. Found time to mount the front bumper and installed the driving lights. Photos in the gallery. You know what I like about this year model? How sweet it looks from the front.




Purchased the driving lights off of ebay - $25.00 they come in blue, amber, clear, red, and rainbow. 3" round. In retrospect i should have went with a 4 or 5" round light. Anyway, they are small enough that they don't detract and add enough light to the front of the road where i can see really well (I'm old.)

Getting close to doing the last bit of body work.

On Saturday, August 1,2009. I spent a lovely afternoon sitting on the side of the road. I made it about three miles from the garage when the ole cornbinder died. Yes, i left the phone in the other car. Yes, it was about 90 degrees out and looked like it was gonna rain. Yes, it was my fault.
Here is what happened. Earlier in the day i had dropped the gas tank to fix the fuel gauge. Put it back on and went about my business doing other things. Anyway. It stopped raining and I decided to go and get some gas to see if I had fixed my little problem. So down the road i went. Yeah. Two hours on the side of the road. I finally figured out that i had trapped a loop of the gas line that sits on top of the tank under one of the bands that holds the tank in place, pinching the gas line. Loosen the strap, pull out the loop, tighten the strap, and go back down the road
Aside from feeling stupid it was quite the adventure.
By the way, the fuel gauge works fine now.

Finally got around to updating the hard drive on the server. There started to be some kind of problem with the old drive. Server now has around five times the space that it had and 50 times more than it was using.
Now if i could just get around to working on my truck.

Went and picked up the truck yesterday. Enough is enough i guess. The mechanic that was supposed to get the motor and transmission in the truck has had the frame and cab at his shop since April of 06. The agreement was that he was supposed to have it put in in by July 31 of 06. Now, over a year later, its almost July 31 of 07 and I could not let it sit any longer. So got a trailer yesterday and went and got it. I will see what what shape it is in this weekend and start again.

Just a progress entry. Radiator is bolted on. Motor in. Transmission on.
Cab on the frame but not bolted in - yet.

Feels like it is starting to get somewhere now.

Wow. Finished a hard day of work on the truck. It seems like nothing happenes for a long time then - zoom - a huge leap in progress. Anyway, got the front end put back together. New brakes, shocks all around, bushings, ball joints and all that. I am pretty sure that i posted that i got the frame painted last time and the motor mounts installed. By the way, 1983 Chevy s10 motor mounts are evil. Designers -bless them and curse them for fools. You have to take the entire side off drop the lower control arm and remove the coil spring in order to get it off. I can only imagine the headache this causes people with the fenders and motor still on their truck.
Anyway, looking forward to posting some photos at the end of this week on the progress.
